We Visited An Artistic Taste

Last week An Artistic Taste was on our radar. This weekend we finally went, and it lived up to the hype. Saturday night on Broadway in Newburgh, the place was packed but never felt crowded. There’s a huge bar if you just want to post up with the bar menu, and the music was on point: present, but you could still hear your table.
Chef Andre Robinson cooks dishes inspired by his childhood in Jamaica, and you taste it right away. We started with the lobster hush puppies, then went with the GraceJoy Jerk Chicken, a catfish sandwich and a side of mac and cheese. The jerk chicken comes with rice and peas and cabbage, and both sides were packed with flavor. They weren’t an afterthought.
To drink, we had the sorrel: strong, bold and exactly what it should be. The whole drink menu is worth a look on its own.
Our verdict: we’re going back. Next time it’s the oxtail, the fried rice and the coconut curry chickpeas.
Good to know: Happy hour Tue–Fri, 3–6pm. Weekend brunch Sat & Sun until 3:30pm.
